However, what many friends may not have thought is that such a power station has already been built in Bishan District, Chongqing City, China.
According to the "Chongqing Daily" report on June 18, China's first space solar power station experimental base officially started construction in Bishan District, Chongqing City. The project has a total investment of about 2.6 billion RMB; the first batch of construction funds is 100 million RMB. The core experimental construction area is about 22000 square meters, and the space solar power station experimental science comprehensive building and test platform will be built; facilities such as the launch test site and the balloon platform debugging site will be built on another experimental area with 70667 square meters. The peripheral construction area covers an area of about 111333 square meters, mainly building a space breeding area and a science and education center.
After completion, it will become China's first large-scale comprehensive experimental base integrating space solar technology testing, key research and new industry cultivation. It will focus on the preliminary demonstration, simulation, verification and application work, which will have great significance for China to change the traditional energy transmission mode and solve the problems of energy supply in the future.
The space solar power station is to establish a solar energy collection and conversion station on the space orbit outside the earth's atmosphere. The space solar power station planned to be built at the base will be arranged in space 36,000 kilometers from the ground, and will not be affected by natural factors such as the earth's day and night, weather, regional latitude, etc. The data shows that one square meter of photovoltaic cells can generate 10 to 14 Kilowatts of electricity, and the same area of solar panels will generate electricity dozens of times that of the ground, so only 2 million square meters of photovoltaic panels are required, which is equivalent to the installed capacity of the Three Gorges Power Station. The space solar power station is also called the "Three Gorges in Space". In fact,
solar panels with 2 million square meters only have an area of two square kilometers. It is not impossible to build it.
According to Academician Yang Shizhong's plan, the space solar power station experimental base and R&D platform will be built around 2020. Although some time has been delayed due to the epidemic, this step is currently underway; the second step is to realize small and medium-scale solar power plants around 2025. The stratospheric solar power plant is connected to the grid for power generation. The stratosphere is located at an altitude of 10 kilometers to 50 kilometers above the troposphere, so it will not be affected by the surface weather; the third step is to carry out system application of the power station for large-scale space solar energy after 2025. The construction of China’s Three Gorges in Space is already in progress, and the space power station will also run along with the earth in the near future.

The electric energy of the space solar power station is mainly transmitted through wireless transmission such as microwaves, which is equivalent to pulling a transmission line from space to the ground. Targeted power supply or mobile power supply in disaster-stricken areas can solve the problems of power generation and power supply in some areas.
